Potomac Flute festival, event schedule is ready

Mark your calendars now if you have not already done so! The POTOMAC NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE FESTIVAL is February 23-25, 2007

[I am a member of this circle as well and I can tell you that they work VERY hard, year round to pull off a first class event that you will not want to miss]

Location: Montgomery College - Rockville, Maryland - Washington D.C. Metro Area

Website: Potomacflutecircle.net - link to your right

[I was an attendee of this event last year and I can say that it is great in every way. The college department setting provides for great contact with presenters and vendors as well as fellow fluties. Concerts include top name performers with expert sound and acoustics. Many of these same performers are in workshops with you or teaching them, which makes for a very enriching experience. Every vendor donates a raffle item to the event and some wonderful items are raffled to support festival expenses. This years event has included some exposure to bansuri and fujara style flutes and didgeridoo which I think is a really great thing. I am already registered and willing to share a ride with interested circle members, email me]

The Potomac and Maryland Flute Circles have the pleasure of inviting you to the Potomac Native American Flute Festival. The 2006 event was so successful that Montgomery College near Washington D.C. has invited us back to again hold the event as a part of their World Arts Festival on February 23-25, 2007!!

Our Friday evening concert will feature a wonderful line up including special guests Michael Graham Allen (Coyote Oldman), Ron Warren, and Australian digeridoo master, Ash Dargan. Saturday afternoon will showcase the cultural wisdom and incredible flute playing talents of Hawk Henries. Saturday Night will mark the return of the Jeff Ball Band, along with flute/violin specialist Arvel Bird and other guest performers. These artists will perform individually and as a group throughout the evening. This is an event you will never forget!

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday workshops will include presentations on topics such as flute playing, ethnic flutes, early flute history, recording, flute and fiddle, and composing. There will also be a participant's recital on Sunday. More than TEN flute makers and others will be selling their fantastic flutes
and CD's!! No doubt this will likely be the best East Coast Native American flute buying opportunity in 2007!! For more information, please visit: www.potomacflutecircle.net. The
Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. is now open and easily reached from the Potomac Flute Festival. A great addition to your trip to the Washington D.C. area!!

November News Flash

Native American Flute Portal is open and this project from Jeff Ball and Geoffrey Ellis of Earthtone Flutes looks very exciting. A link to the flute portal is found to your right and WV NAF Circle has a free web page there as well for better exposure. Stop by as the site is building now and is user interactive - so the more users, the better the site.

WV NAF Circle has hit the road with traveling presentations and we did two 30-minute sessions with the local Montessori School in Elkins for preschool age kids. Very fun stuff and a super appreciative audience! Scheduled dates for additional schools will follow but we are looking to introduce one new school a month to the NA Flute and the didgridoo.

I have been away from the blog - sanding! The trouble has really started in earnest - I am working with one of our circle members to attempt to make a flute. Two flutes actually and I will not spoil the surprise - stay tuned for sounds, pictures and text on these instruments when they are complete. Anyway my hands have been busy with wood rather than the keyboard and I am still smiling so far (with all fingers intact, LOL)

Our next meeting is this Saturday from 1-3pm at Elkins in the Randolph County Community Arts Center. We will meet upstairs this month.
This month features the opening of a traveling Smithsonian exhibit at RCCAC, Produce for Victory: Posters on the American Homefront, 1941 – 1945. So check out the wonderful exhibit prior to attending our meeting.
